Volunteering at Rugged Maniac
Volunteering at Rugged Maniac is a great way to meet new people while getting a behind the scenes look at all the action! As a volunteer you’ll not only get the chance to help put on our greatest event yet, you’ll also get a Rugged Maniac volunteer t-shirt, free entry into a Rugged Maniac race, a racer t-shirt, bib, and a free beer! You can either volunteer for the morning shift or the afternoon shift. Please use the tabs above to learn more about each volunteer shift and answers to frequently asked questions.
Morning Volunteer Details
Select this option if you’d like to help out from 7:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on the day of the race. You must arrive promptly at 7 for volunteer check-in and orientation or you risk losing your space to one of the volunteers on our waiting list. You’ll be assigned a position either in registration, the festival area, or out on the course. The volunteer coordinator will try to keep your group together, but please be aware that volunteers will be assigned as needed.
After you are relieved from your post, head back to the volunteer check-in area to check-in as a racer and receive your race items, or let the coordinator know you’d like to redeem your voucher at a future event. As a volunteer you can run in any of the afternoon waves (1, 1:30, or 2 p.m.) even if they are sold out, so tell your friends and family to register for one of those waves so you can join them in the race!
Afternoon Volunteer Details
Select this option if you’d like to help out from 11:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on the day of the race. You must arrive promptly at 11:30 for volunteer check-in and orientation or you risk losing your space to one of the volunteers on our waiting list. You’ll be assigned a position either in registration, the festival area, or out on the course. The volunteer coordinator will try to keep your group together, but please be aware that volunteers will be assigned as needed.
If you plan to use your free entry in the morning before your volunteer shift, you must run in a wave prior to 10:30 a.m., leaving yourself enough time to finish the race and get cleaned up in time for volunteer check-in. This means if you’re a slower runner, you should run in the earliest wave. Arrive about an hour before your intended wave and don’t forget to bring your $100 cash deposit. This deposit will be returned to you at the end of your volunteer shift.
Where do I sign up?
Go to the “Locations” page on the left and select your location from the list. Click the “Register Now” option and select your desired volunteer shift on the following page. Then simply fill out the required information. You’ll receive a confirmation email shortly after your registration is completed.
When can I sign up?
Registration will open on the dates below at 9:00 a.m in the time zone where the event is located. Be sure to mark your calendars as spots will sell out the same day!

Sounds awesome! How do I sign up?
Volunteer registration begins about 40 days prior to each event, so mark your calendar with the date on the “REGISTERING AS A VOLUNTEER” tab above to ensure you get a space. Don’t forget to like your event on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to get important updates about the event! To register, click the link to your event and select “Volunteer” on the first page of registration.
What if I’m not sure if I can make it? How do I cancel my registration?
Please don’t sign up to volunteer unless you are certain you can make it to the race! Volunteers play important roles at the races so it’s important that everyone who signs up actually shows up. If your plans change and you can no longer make it to the event, please email us immediately and let us know to cancel your registration.
If I register as a racer now, will I get a refund when I register to volunteer?
No! Per company policy we do not provide refunds for any reason. If you are concerned you might not get a volunteer space and will then have to pay the higher registration price, we encourage you to purchase your registration now. If you get a volunteer space you can transfer your registration for free until a week before the event, when online registration officially closes. Transfers can also be done at the event with a copy of the original registrant’s photo ID (print or digital) for a $10 processing fee.
